My Open Road – Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how My Open Road (MOR) collects, uses and discloses personal information about you, both through our website at and by using the MOR App on your mobile device. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being as transparent as possible about our personal information handling practices. In addition to this Policy, we may provide more detailed information within the App that describes how and why certain personal information is collected and used.

Collection and Use of Personal Information


The App collects personal information that you voluntarily provide, including such things as: name, gender, user name, picture, contact information (street address, phone number, email address), geolocation information, social media login accounts and passwords, and any other information you may choose to provide. We need this information to know who you are, and to create and manage your account.

We may use certain information you provide us, including your contacts, location, where you attended school and where you work, to allow you to compete with other people and to arrange for ride sharing. If you choose to add contacts to your account, the App will request access to contacts on your device, your Facebook profile, and on Google +.

The App accesses features on your mobile device, such as GPS, to collect information about your transportation choices, including modes of travel and distance travelled. This information is used to assign you a Social Responsibility Score and to allow you to keep track of your trips. Location-based information may also be used to notify you of offers from socially-responsible merchants who are close by (although we do not share who you are or your location with merchants).

Website and cookies

Anytime you visit our website, certain non-identifying information is automatically collected, including such things as your IP address, your approximate location (based on your internet service provider), and information about your browser and computer or device. This information is necessary to communicate with your computer or device, to understand who our website users are, and to optimize and improve website content.

Our website uses cookies, which are messages from a web server that are stored by a web browser in a text file. Cookies enable website analytics on our site, which uses the information described in the paragraph above, as well as information about how you interact with our site (e.g, pages visited, for how long, etc.). These cookies do not contain any information that identifies you. Cookies are also used to allow you to log in to the web-based dashboard on, and they can be used to remember information about you so that you do not need to log in every time you visit the site.

If you prefer not to allow us to use cookies, you can refuse all cookies through the settings within your browser. You will not be able to use the dashboard feature of our site if you refuse all cookies, however.

Email Marketing

If you subscribe to our newsletter on, we will send you emails with updates and offers from MOR and our partners. You can unsubscribe at any time by clicking on the “unsubscribe” button included at the bottom of all promotional emails.

Disclosure of Personal Information

We will not disclose personal information about you except with your consent and in limited circumstances as permitted or required by law, as described below.

Although we may share certain aggregated information about MOR users with our merchant partners, we do not disclose information that could be used to identify you.

If you choose to add contacts to your account, then your contacts will be able to see certain information about you, including profile information and your Social Responsibility Score.

MOR does not share your real time locations with anyone except you. If you choose to share your trips on social media, MOR will only share where you have been in the past but never share your real time location.

We may share personal information with law enforcement agencies in limited circumstances. For example, we may disclose personal information if we are required to do so in response to a court order, warrant or subpoena, or to assist in lawful investigations at our discretion and where permitted by law.

Data Residency

Users located outside of the United States should be aware that personal information is stored on servers located in the United States. As such, personal information could be accessed by law enforcement and government agencies in the United States.

Information Security

Although no system is completely secure, we have in place the following administrative, physical and technical measures to protect your information:

  • Administrative - We utilize two-factor authentication and specify minimum password requirements for administrative access to our networks. All venders are required to sign non-disclosure agreements and confidentiality agreements.
  • Physical - Our data centres and offices are protected by security guards and surveillance cameras, 24 hrs/day, 7 days/week. We have time locks on all office doors and limited keycard access.
  • Technical - Our network is secured by 256 bit encryption SSL as well as network firewalls. Our databases are separated from the public internet using a virtual private network.

Access to and Retention of Personal Information

You are able to access and make changes to the personal information we have about you through your MOR account on the App. Your account information is permanently deleted when you close your account. If you close your account, you will need to create a new account in order to continue using MOR.

Optional Information Fields

There is additional functionality in My Open Road if you choose to populate your profile with optional information.  All optional information is marked with an *.

If you chose to provide this optional information, you will be able to see reports that aggregate information about the organization you belong to.  You will also be able to see how you rank compared to others using My Open Road at that organization.

By entering the optional information you are agreeing to have certain information about you shared with other organizations, such as your school or employer.  In certain instances, other third parties such as governmental environment agencies will also have this information and these third parties may contact you through your My Open Road account for the purpose of validating the data.

The information the third parties will have access to if you opt-in to providing this information is:

  • Your My Open Road username and contact information
  • The date and time of your trip.
  • The mode of transportation utilized
  • The type of vehicle utilized
  • The distance traveled of each trip
  • The amount of C02 saved
  • The cost of fuel saved
  • The amount of fuel saved
  • The number of other people you are traveling with in a carpool/vanpool.
  • Where a trip originated from.


And, to be clear, not all your personal information will be shared.  The information the third parties will not have access to includes:

  • The route taken for any trip.
  • The make and model of vehicle utilized.
  • The name or number of the line of public transportation utilized.
  • The identity of any carpool or rideshare partners you travel with.
  • Your real time location.
  • Where a trip concluded.


By clicking the acknowledgment checkbox during the first time setup of the application, you are indicating to My Open Road that you have read and understand the terms above concerning your choice to provide optional information.
